Karen Isaacson
Karen Isaacson, the Executive Director of the Southborough Extended Day Program, Inc., has a rich background in running child-centered programs. In her role as Executive Director, Karen is responsible for all daily operations including maintaining solid business practices and management, staff supervision, recruitment and training, budgeting and financial reporting, curriculum development, internal and external communication, compliance with Department of Early Education and Care regulations, and working closely with the SEDP Board of Directors on program policies and operations.
Prior to joining SEDP in 2009, Karen was the long-time Director for Textron System's Children's Center; an accredited, employer-sponsored childcare center in Wilmington, MA. In this role, she was the sole administrator overseeing all business operations for both the school year and summer programs. Serving over 150 children ranging in age from 2 months through 11 years old, Karen oversaw the organization's daycare services, full-day Kindergarten program as well as the recreational summer camp. Before her position with Textron, Karen worked with at-risk families needing subsidized care as the Director of Boston's Tent City Day Care. In this role, she worked with state agencies, such as the Department of Social Services, to assist families with childcare needs. Karen is an experienced teacher who enjoyed many years in the classroom as both a team leader and teacher with Hutch Kids Child Care in Seattle Washington.
Throughout her career, Karen has worked with children and their families both in the classroom and as a program administrator. She holds a Masters in Early Childhood Education from the University of Massachusetts and a Bachelors of Science in Child and Family Studies from the University of New Hampshire. She is certified by the EEC as a Director II and Lead Teacher; and is actively pursuing further certification through DOE Early Childhood for students with and without disabilities. Karen is a member of NAEYC (national association for the education of young children) and NAA (national afterschool association).
Karen and her husband, Ric, have a son named Max, who is third grader at the Floral Street School in their hometown of Shrewsbury, MA. She enjoys volunteering in his classroom and has served on the school council in the recent past.
